Blast from the past…

First off, I am very surprised I am even writing about this wine, I pretty much gave up on Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County a few years ago. I was such a big fan when I first started getting into wine. But over the years I found that the wine has kind of gone down hill. This week I had the opportunity to revisit the wine… and I was skeptical to say the least.

Right off the back I found aromas of toasty oak, nice dark fruit and cocoa… better nose than I was expecting. Now onto my first sip, black cherry, cola and cedar are the first to hit me. Then the whole chocolate-cherry thing that I love in Cabernet Sauvignon starts taking over… this wine now has my attention. I’m starting to remember why I fell in love with it so long ago. The finish is also nice with well-rounded tannins, good acid and a hint of vanilla. I would have liked the finish to last a little longer, but all in all pretty solid wine. I’m glad I gave my blast from the past a second chance, we may even start dating again… lol

So readers, do you have any “Blast From the Past” wine that you have revisited lately? If so, let me know your thoughts, I may just need to revisit them myself.

Why take a chance when you can have a Educated Guess…

Have you ever found yourself in a wine shop or restaurant perusing the wines and wondering…how do I choose the best wine for the money? You may admire a label, recognize a name, or recall a great review…in essence you’re making an “Educated Guess.”

Nifty Fact: The label was designed to tell the story of how you can make an educated guess in winemaking, not to give you nightmares about your high school chemistry class. It shows you actual winemaking formulas that are either induced or naturally occur during a specific winemaking process.

Dirty Little Freaks

All the Underdogs…

I was at dinner the other night and ordered the Ahi Tuna and a glass of Pinot Noir. Speaking in a kind-of judgmental tone the server asks; do you really want to drink a red with Tuna? Wait, hold up, I think a server just judged me, but I kept it together and just said yes, I’ll be having the Pinot Noir. But it gets better, the tuna arrives, it is grilled perfect and served with grilled vegetables with a balsamic reduction. Here comes the server with what I can tell is a sample of something white… here we go, he’s not giving up. I decline the sample of wine, in his eyes I know he was trying to help… I get that, BUT… let me be.

In wine, why do people think it’s ok to judge? We are told we can’t drink this, we shouldn’t eat that. Whatever, I drink what I want. Never let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t drink. That’s the thing about wine; it’s for everybody, not just the stuffy wine snobs of the world. Wine should make you feel happy, bring back fond memories and joyful times. Just think about the wedding toast or New Years Eve, can you imagine it without something sparkling? So continue drinking what you will, put ice in your red if that’s what you like, make your own blend from bottles you have open. They have wine rules for one reason… to be broken. So raise your glass if you’re all wrong, in all the right way …

So Readers, how do you break the rules ??
